DOT NG911 Initiative Historical Resources
From 2006 to 2009, the Department of Transportation (DOT) led a community-based effort to build and test a prototype of a Next Generation 911 (NG911) network. Known as the USDOT NG911 Initiative, it was an early “rallying point” for the 911 community and one of the first projects to move NG911 from concept to reality.
Working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, the initiative’s efforts focused on two issue areas – technical/engineering and institutional/transitional. Specifically, it focused on building and testing an NG911 system architecture that could accommodate stakeholder needs as well as future technological advances.
The NG911 Initiative produced a series of products that defined and documented a comprehensive future vision for the NG911 system, as well as a broad set of resources, listed below, to facilitate national transition and inform the community on how to move to the next generation of capabilities. Note that these are historical resources and more current information may now be available.
