911 Case Studies: National Alert & Warning System and Emergency Communications Training Standards

Published Oct 10, 2017

The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) gives public safety officials access to the Emergency Alert System, NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards and a number of other public alerting platforms. IPAWS makes it easier for 911 systems to be informed and inform others during emergency events. This webinar shares notable use cases, success stories by local public safety organizations and FCC regulatory changes that will improve wireless emergency alerts.

Having the proper training in place is key in emergencies. Learn how the state of Idaho used the Recommended Minimum Training Guidelines for 911 Telecommunicators to successfully transition from voluntary standards and training for emergency communication officers to state mandated hiring and training standards. The shared experience of a committee of tenacious and transparent experts working together will provide ideas and help other states undertaking similar endeavors.

Speakers Include:

  • Mark A. Lucero, CISSP, Chief, IPAWS Engineering, FEMA National Continuity Programs

  • Captain Kevin Haight, Commissioner, Idaho Public Safety Communications Commission
