Is Your PSAP NG911 Ready?

Published Feb 14, 2017

After studying NG911 implementation for more than two years, the FCC’s Task Force on Optimal PSAP Architecture (TFOPA) brings the FCC’s Timothy May and TFOPA Chair Steve Souder together to share a first look at the information developed to help PSAPs plan for and implement NG911.

May and Souder talk about a valuable tool developed by the TFOPA; a checklist to determine a PSAP’s level of NG911 deployment and what is needed to reach the next level. They also address cybersecurity and governance recommendations included in this report.

Then, the discussion includes a firsthand recounting of the successes and challenges of interconnecting ESInets across fours states as they transition to NG911. The "NG911 Interstate Playbook, “” written by states for states and regions addresses how these states and others can prepare for and overcome issues pertaining to operations, technological interconnectivity, policy and more.

Speakers Include:

  • Timothy May, Policy & Licensing Division, Public Safety & Homeland Security

  • Steve Souder, Chair, Task Force on Optimal PSAP Architecture

  • Dana Wahlberg, 911 Program Manager, State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety

  • Jason Horning, ENP, NG911 Program Manager at the North Dakota Association of Counties
